72nd Infantry, State Color. The 72nd regiment was composed of men from Philadelphia and was organized in August 1861. It was known as "Baxter's Fire Zouaves," due to the large number of Philadelphia firefighters who joined. The regiment received the state color sometime in November 1861. The 72nd was mustered out of service on August 24, 1864.
